Wipeout co-creator making futuristic sports title at new studio Starlight Games
Wipeout co-creator Nick Burcombe is making a futuristic sports title at a new development studio called Starlight Games.
The Liverpool, UK-based studio was founded by Gary Nichols, who began his career at Psygnosis and has for the last 20 years run work for hire studio Atomicom, whose title include 2019 Switch release House of Golf.
Its management team also includes producer Andy Santos, who co-created EA‘s Skate series, directed Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and more recently worked at Sony’s Firesprite on Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
The studio’s formation was announced on Monday alongside the news that it has three games in development.
House of Golf 2 “takes the fun approach of mini-golf and brings it into the home with over 100 incredible courses, gorgeous visuals, weekly tournaments, and many crazy ways to play”. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store this summer.
The studio’s design director, Burcombe, is directing a futuristic sports title that’s set to be revealed “in the coming months”. And a strategy sci-fi rogue-lite action experience will also be revealed “soon”.
The studio has several Unreal Engine Fortnite experiences in development too, led by the its younger talent, the first of which is titled Jungle Jam and scheduled for release this month.
“The company has a mission to create the best experiences using the power of Unreal Engine 5 with a focus on nurturing young talent from the local community with the aim to fuel the next generation of game developers and innovate in gameplay mechanics,” according to today’s announcement.
“Our vision is to foster a creative ecosystem where talent can flourish and dreams can be turned into reality,” said founder Nichols. “We want to provide the platform and resources for young talent to thrive and leave a lasting impact on the industry.”
