V Rising was the UK’s best-selling game in May

Vampire survival action RPG V Rising was the UK’s best-selling game in May.

That’s according to GSD data published by GamesIndustry.biz, which tracks all physical sales plus digital sales from most major publishers, excluding Nintendo and 505 Games.

Following two years in early access, V Rising received a full PC release last month, ahead of its PS5 launch this week.

Developed and published by Stunlock Studios, the game has been warmly received by critics, earning it scores of 83 and 81 on Metacritic respectively.

It topped last month’s software chart ahead of familiar faces EA Sports FC 24 and Grand Theft Auto 5.

It was a relatively slow month for total game sales, which were down 21% compared to May 2023, when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released.

Fallout 4, which was April’s best-selling game, dropped to No. 4 in May, ahead of Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut.

Following its release last month, the latter enjoyed PlayStation’s second biggest PC launch to date behind Helldivers 2, which topped the UK chart in February and March.

The only other new entry in May’s top 10 was Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door at No.7, a feat achieved based on physical sales alone given that Nintendo doesn’t share digital data.

On the hardware front, console unit sales in May declined by 10% compared to the previous month and almost 33% year-over-year.
