The Last of Us snubbed at Golden Globes as Succession sweeps

The Last of Us failed to pick up any prizes at The Golden Globes last night, falling short to a sweep from another HBO show, Succession.

The acclaimed drama series which ended in 2023 picked up the top prizes in almost every category it was nominated, picking up 4 awards.

The Last of Us was nominated for Best Drama as well as Best Leading Actor and Actress in a Drama series for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay respectively.

Succession, starring Brain Box, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, and Sarah Snook follows a fictional media empire owned by a Murdoch-inspired family.

The Last of Us TV series won 8 Creative Arts Emmys over the weekend.

The show bagged top several awards including the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a drama series, which Nick Offerman won for his portrayal of Bill.

Storm Reid, who played Riley Abel in the show’s episode “Left Behind” won the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a drama series.

HBO announced that The Last of Us had been renewed for a second season just two and a half weeks into the first season’s run, which concluded in March 2023.

Showrunner Craig Mazin said last year that the show’s second season won’t cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2 video game, and that the series could run for three to five seasons, “but four seems like a good number.”

The Last of Us Part 2 was released for PS4 in 2020, and a PS5 remaster is scheduled for release on January 19, 2024.

Headline features of the PS5 title are a new single-player roguelike survival mode called No Return, and a trio of ‘Lost Levels’ featuring playable sequences previously cut from the game.

Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann, who co-created the Last of Us games and the TV series, recently told Entertainment Weekly that “there is at least one element from a cut level that is planned [for] the show”.

Druckmann has previously appeared to hint at plans for a third Last of Us game, although it’s unclear if one is currently in development.
