The Casting of Frank Stone and Dead by Daylight’s 2v8 mode receive release dates

Dead by Daylight spin-off game The Casting of Frank Stone has received a release date.

So too have Dead by Daylight’s new 2v8 game mode and cross-progression support.

The Casting of Frank Stone is a collaboration between UK studio Supermassive Games (Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry) and Canadian Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive.

The single-player cinematic horror game will be released on September 3, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Pre-orders are now open for Standard and Deluxe editions.

“In The Casting of Frank Stone, a dark branching narrative lies before you,” reads an official synopsis. “Your decisions pen the script – the only thing standing between life and death for a group of young filmmakers. Change reality with your choices, unlock new paths with your actions, and discover what horrors your final cut may hold.”

“In a story where every move matters, actions can speak louder than words. Explore a cinematic nightmare, testing your wits as you solve environmental puzzles and react to Quick Time Events. Guide your cast of characters through eerie locations and search for clues that hide the bigger picture.”

Dead by Daylight’s new 2v8 game mode, which pits two killers against eight survivors, will be released on July 25.

The action will play out across five classic maps, each of which has been expanded.

“Generators have also been doubled, with Survivors now needing to repair 8 of 13 to escape,” according to Behaviour. “Hooks and Perks have been jettisoned in a bid to keep the action flowing.

“Downed Survivors are now sent directly to Cages, while Survivor Perks are replaced with a new class system designed to encourage teamwork as players can adopt clearer ‘roles’ within a Trial.

“Instead of Classes, Killers will receive alterations to their Powers, as well as a crucial team-based ability to amplify the havoc they can wreak as a duo.”

Cross-progression support is also coming to Dead by Daylight on July 22. It will enable players to sync their progress and purchases across platforms.

The previously announced Dead by Daylight: Tomb Raider chapter is available now too, adding Lara Croft to the roster of survivors.
