The Best Dragon Ball Fighting Game Is Getting Rollback Netcode This Week

Rollback netcode is coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ on February 29, nearly two years after it was first announced. This multiplayer feature will be available for PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 versions of the game. A current-gen update will also be added and will see the game rendered in a native 4K resolution on those platforms.

For fighting games, rollback netcode has become an expected feature whenever a new entry in the genre is announced. In a nutshell, rollback netcode allows for smoother performance and more seamless interactions in multiplayer matches, even when you’re facing someone on the other side of the globe. Some of the biggest fighting games–Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, and Tekken 8–make use of this feature, allowing for smooth matches whether you’re using a wired or wireless connection to play.

Even without rollback netcode, Dragon Ball FighterZ has been hailed as one of the best games in the franchise since it first debuted on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in January 2018. “Even if you think Dragon Ball is old hat, and even if you’re intimidated by fighting games, there’s a good chance you’ll be drawn into the explosive action and personalities that expertly evoke the anime’s infectious spirit,” Peter Brown wrote in GameSpot’s Dragon Ball FighterZ review.

A new fighting game in the series was recently announced in the (not even its final) form of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero last year. A continuation of Bandai Namco’s long-dormant fighting series, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, Sparking Zero combines the signature flashy combat of those games with 3D arenas and a roster loaded with many Gokus. No release date has been announced yet, but it’ll be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
