Studio co-founded by Dr Disrespect confirms ‘significant’ layoffs

Midnight Society, the studio co-founded by Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm, has made a “significant” number of layoffs.

The job cuts, which come several months after Beahm was fired following allegations that he sent sexually explicit messages to a minor, were confirmed in a statement to PC Gamer.

Midnight Society is currently working on its debut game Deadrop, a free-to-play first-person “vertical extraction shooter set in a dark and violent future where the 80s never ended”, which is scheduled for release in 2025.

“Unfortunately, Midnight Society has faced multiple unexpected challenges in recent months,” a studio representative said. “To adapt to these changes and secure the future of Midnight Society, Deadrop, and our commitment to providing innovative gaming experiences, we’ve made the tough decision to streamline our operations, which includes a significant workforce reduction.

“We wouldn’t be here without the contributions of those who are affected and we thank them for all their incredible work, support them, and wish them the best.”

“These measures, while difficult, are designed to strengthen our foundation and renew focus on our core mission,” the statement added. “Despite these challenges, we remain dedicated to launching Deadrop in 2025.”

Beahm co-founded Midnight Society in 2021 with, among others, studio head Robert Bowling, who was formerly creative strategist at Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward, and creative director Quinn DelHoyo, who had spent the previous nine years working on Halo at 343 Industries.
