Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection launches to negative player reviews due to server issues, bugs

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection has launched to mostly negative reviews on Steam, after players reported bugs, crashes, and significant server issues.

The game, which was released on Thursday, has been met with widespread criticism on X, Reddit, and on the game’s Steam page.

Currently, Classic Collection has a mostly negative rating and, at the time of writing, only 20% of those who’ve played and reviewed the game on Steam have done so favourably.

According to social media users, when the game launched, some modes featured a maximum of three PC servers to accommodate the entire community. This means that out of the over 20,000 people trying to play on launch night, only 192 were able to access some of the game’s modes.

While more servers have reportedly been added in the hours since launch, players are reporting consistent bugs, stuttering, and in some instances, weapons failing to register damage done to the other players at all.

Players are also reporting that in a large number of matches, the stuttering becomes so bad that they’re skipping around the level, making shooting impossible.

“It’s an insult really, a 19-year-old game but they couldn’t get it even remotely functional,” wrote DarthW00dy on a Reddit thread.

“How hard could it f**king be to just repackage the game without f***ing it all up?,” wrote another Reddit user.

A Steam review summarised: “So let me get this straight. You launched this game with only 3 servers on PC knowing full well people only bought it for that sole reason? Peak comedy gold. Easy refund. What a disappointment.” It later added: “After 2 hours they finally launched the servers, and they are TERRIBLE. Horrible ping, stuttering, and by tomorrow cheaters will be rampant.”

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection includes all original bonus content from the 2004 and 2005 games and support for cross-platform play.
