Sony is refunding Last of Us 2 PS4 owners who bought the PS5 version at full price
Sony is reportedly refunding The Last of Us 2 PS4 owners who bought the PS5 version of the game at full price.
It seems some players weren’t aware that there’s an upgrade path that allows owners of the last-gen version to buy the new PS5 one for $10 / £10.
With that in mind, it’s claimed that Sony has begun automatically refunding players who purchased The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered at full price if they already own the digital PS4 version of The Last of Us Part 2.
“As an owner of the PS4 digital version of The Last of Us Part II, a digital upgrade to the PS5 digital version will be available at a deeply discounted price on launch day 19/1/24,” a message sent to players reportedly reads.
“We don’t want you to lose out on that opportunity so, as a gesture of good will, we have refunded your purchase for the pre-order of the PS5 version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered so that you may purchase the digital upgrade on launch day.
Wondering how the $10 USD upgrade for #TLOU2Remastered works?
Just go to PS Store once the game launches on January 19 to upgrade. Owners of PS4 disc copies must insert them into their PS5 with a disc drive to download and play the digital version. Price may vary by country. pic.twitter.com/9mXoKUNjgN

“Rest assured that by purchasing the digital upgrade, you will also receive any pre-order bonuses included in your original pre-order. The refund amount is paid back to your original payment method.
“This may take up to 60 days to appear on your statement. If for any reason we are unable to issue the refund to your original payment method, the amount will be credited to your PlayStation Network wallet.”
Headline features of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered include improved graphics, a new single-player roguelike survival mode called No Return, and a trio of ‘Lost Levels’ featuring playable sequences previously cut from the game.
“The Last of Us Part 2 is a seminal game and this is the very best way to play it,” according to VGC’s review of the PS5 title. “For owners of the original game, the upgrade charge is more than covered by No Return and The Lost Levels, with improved visuals and haptic feedback a nice, if not strictly necessary improvement.
“The Lost Levels offer a look under the hood of games that is rarely shown off by developers of Naughty Dog’s pedigree, and will hopefully encourage others to do the same. No Return is strange on the surface, but in practice it’s a mode that the base game’s excellent stealth mechanics has always deserved.”
