Rocksteady claims Suicide Squad is ‘easily our biggest game’ in terms of story

Arkham series developer Rocksteady has claimed that the upcoming Suicide Squad is “easily our biggest game” in terms of narrative.

Publisher Warner Bros. took the surprising step of lifting alpha test NDAs this week, following the publication of a round of Suicide Squad press previews, including VGC’s, which said it doesn’t appear set to break new ground for the superhero genre in the same way Rocksteady’s Arkham series did.

However, speaking in the latest issue of Play magazine (via Games Radar), product director Darius Sadeghian offered promising words on the scale of Suicide Squad’s story, which should please fans of the Arkham games.

“It’s still full of the DNA that infuses the Batman: Arkham series – those foundations of story and character are absolutely central to our process,” he said. “Story-wise, this is easily our biggest game.”

Following several delays, the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date is February 2, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.

The game was originally billed for release last year, but was eventually delayed until May 2023, following a negative reception to a reveal event due to its live service elements, such as the requirement to play online even in single-player mode.

Freelance critic Alan Wen wrote in VGC’s Suicide Squad hands-on: “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is, as I’m told by a Rocksteady representative, part of the Arkhamverse.

“But you wouldn’t know just by looking at it, and after playing it for almost four hours, I’m not sure you would know it was from the same studio behind the best superhero game trilogy ever made.”
