PlayStation Showcase Coming In May With Silent Hill 2 Remake – Report
The Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team may have a release date, or at least a release window soon, according to insider information and a recent ESRB rating. The remake has officially received an unsurprising M rating from the ESRB, suggesting the game may be getting close to release.
The rating was picked up by Jeff Grubb on the Giant Bomb podcast, who also said he has “heard that there will be a PlayStation something, either a State of Play or a showcase, next month, in May.” Putting the pieces together, Grubb suggests that the Silent Hill 2 remake is likely to be there, and that “a release window might be imminent.”
Sony’s most recent State of Play in January revealed new footage of the remake, including our first look at Bloober’s take on Silent Hill combat. Bloober team has said that it wants its remake to be faithful to the original game, saying that Silent Hill 2 is part of a shift towards “mass-market horror” for the studio.
“From a third-person perspective, players explore the town of Silent Hill, interact with characters, and battle humans and creatures (e.g., Pyramid Head, mannequins, monsters),” the ESRB describes Silent Hill 2 in its rating decision, with the details sounding true to the original game. “Players use pistols, shotguns, rifles, and knives to kill enemies.”
The rating warns of violence, blood, and gore–all things that should be expected from a Silent Hill game–as well as sexually suggestive material and implications of sexual violence.
Silent Hill 2 is currently due to release sometime in 2024 on PC and PS5.
