PlatinumGames’ World of Demons is ending service

World of Demons, the Apple Arcade game from PlatinumGames, is ending service.

“World of Demons will no longer be available to download on Apple Arcade as of January 18, 2024. Please see the schedule below for more details,” reads a message on the game’s blog.

“We extend our gratitude to all players who have enjoyed the game since its release.”

World of Demons is an action game with “a magnificent visual style” inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e and sumi-e woodblock prints, similar to Capcom classic Okami, which was directed by Platinum co-founder Hideki Kamiya.

Players assume the role of the samurai Onimaru as he explores striking environments. Along the way, they’ll meet samurai allies and a number of yokai, each with their own techniques and combo possibilities.

The yokai first appear as enemies but become companions once defeated and will help the player with various actions according to their individual skills.

In other Platinum-related news, co-founder and former director Hideki Kamiya has said he wants a new job in games to “have a meal.”

The developer, often known for his flippant comments and eccentric online personality, left the Japanese studio last year. Prior to this, Kamiya served as Platinum’s vice president and its most senior creative force, overseeing franchises such as Bayonetta and Astral Chain.
