Nintendo Switch 2 Is Indeed Called Switch 2 – Report

While Nintendo might still be tight-lipped about the Switch successor, rumors regarding Switch 2 are spreading like wildfire. The latest comes in regard to a Reddit user who says they’ve not only seen the handheld system with its dock, but touched it as well. And yes, they say the system will, in fact, be called Switch 2.

The Verge reports it has talked with the Redditor named NextHandheld and now believes their claims could be legitimate after reviewing two photos. The Verge notes the logo for Switch 2 looks close to a mockup by a Reddit user–seen below. Additionally, the previously rumored magnetic Joy-con controllers seem accurate, alongside new joystick interiors to avoid the drift situation on the current Switch system.

As for the dock, there’s the possibility Switch 2 will have extra power when connected with it. There is even a tease of vents or fans with the Switch 2 dock, further suggesting the system will see benefits between docked mode (rated for 60W) and handheld mode (rated for 45W). As for ports on the new dock, it sounds similar to what’s currently available: a couple of USB-A inputs, HDMI, ethernet, and a singular USB-C that’s probably for powering the device.

Interestingly, The Verge saw a photo of Switch 2 with a U-shaped kickstand. Basically, think of it as similar to Switch OLED’s wider and better kickstand, but with the middle of the plastic removed to create the U shape.

Last month, Nintendo confirmed the successor’s reveal would happen by the end of March 2025. It’s set to lead to major video game industry growth for the new year.

Meanwhile, Switch just hit a major sales milestone in the US. The handheld system is now the second-best-selling system of all time, surpassing PS2 and only sitting behind Nintendo DS.
