Nintendo shows off Mario vs. Donkey Kong’s new co-op mode

Nintendo has released a new Mario vs. Donkey Kong video showing off the Switch remake’s new co-op mode.

As shown in the footage, the two-player mode will allow a second person to control Toad, allowing players to tackle the game’s platforming puzzles as a pair.

Based on the 2004 original for Game Boy Advance, Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a 2D platformer with puzzle elements, planned for release for Nintendo Switch on February 16.

New to this version of the game are Merry Mini-Land and Slippery Summit – two worlds which Nintendo says feature “new enemies and level themes with distinct play mechanics”.

Players will be able to unlock Plus Levels and Expert Levels as they play the game, as well as a Time Attack feature. A new Casual difficulty has also been added, toning down the challenge for rookie players.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong was the spiritual successor to the 1994 Game Boy version of Donkey Kong, in which Mario could perform new moves.
