Nintendo Music app launching later today, featuring decades of Nintendo soundtracks

Nintendo is launching Nintendo Music, an app that will allow Nintendo Switch Online users to listen to the soundtracks from Nintendo titles.

The app, which appears to be based on music streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music, will be released later today.

“Kick back and enjoy some Nintendo tunes with Nintendo Music, the exclusive smart-device app for Nintendo Switch Online members that lets you stream or download Nintendo soundtracks, create and share playlists, browse music by different categories, and more,” reads an official description.

It’s unclear how many soundtracks will be included at launch, but the website for the newly announced app includes box art for titles from the Famicom, all the way to the Nintendo Switch.

Users will be given recommendations based on their Nintendo Switch play history, and it will also be possible to hide certain soundtracks in order to avoid spoilers. Some tracks will also be able to be extended “for up to 60 minutes.”

This likely refers to tracks that were originally used as background music and therefore were composed to be looped.

Users can try the app with a free trial of Nintendo Switch Online.

Switch Online’s Expansion Pack add-on, which is also needed to play Game Boy Advance titles, Nintendo 64 titles, and classic Sega games, costs $49.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 per year. The expansion pack is required for all titles in this drop.

NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games are available as part of the standard Switch Online subscription, which costs £3.49/€3.99/$3.99 for a one-month membership, £6.99/€7.99/$7.99 for a three-month membership, and £17.99/€19.99/$19.99 for a 12-month membership.
