Next James Bond Movie Will Recast All The Major Roles, Actor Believes

Actor Ben Whishaw appeared in the James Bond movies Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die as the technology expert Q, but he doesn’t believe he’ll come back for the next film. Whishaw said in a recent interview that he expects the role of Q, and all the other main roles, to be recast.

“I don’t think I’m going to be in the next one,” he told the BBC, as reported by Variety. “I think they’re going to start all over again, and with a new cast, a completely new cast. I think that’s my hunch, but I don’t know. I have no idea.”

While Whishaw believes a reboot, of sorts, with new actors might be good for the 007 series, he would come back if the producers wanted him.

“I think it might need a new lease of life and a whole new group of people,” he said. “But if they asked me, I would do it, of course.”

Not much is known about the next James Bond movie, which will be the 26th in the series. However, it is confirmed that Daniel Craig, who played the British super-spy in five Bond films, is done, with the role changing hands to someone new. The latest rumor is that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the frontunner, and some believe his name was leaked to the press as a means to see what the public reaction might be.

In any event, these details should come together in time, as producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are getting to work on putting the film together. The movie is said to be a “reinvention” of the series and the title character, so if that’s true, Whishaw’s belief that the producers are recasting the major roles would seemingly make sense.

Prior to Whishaw playing Q, the role was portrayed by actor Desmond Llewelyn from 1963-1999, before John Cleese picked up the mantle. Whishaw will be seen next in Paddington in Peru.

In addition to a new Bond movie, Hitman developer IO is making a James Bond video game that tells an original story in the Bond universe.
