Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3 Reloaded has been detailed
Activision has detailed Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3 Reloaded.
Launching on May 1 at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST / 6pm CEST, it will introduce fresh multiplayer maps and modes, the next story mission for Zombies, and the Specialist Perk Package in Warzone, among other features.
On the multiplayer front, the mid-season update will add Grime, which is set around a derelict London canal, and Checkpoint, which is based on Rebirth Island’s Stronghold.
Minefield is a new multiplayer variant in which each mode’s basic ruleset remains the same, except that eliminated players drop a Proximity Mine on their way out, which can’t be picked up and is deadly to their own team.
A new mode called Escort, which plays out over two rounds, challengers players to escort a MAW with the goal of hacking three points on the map. The vehicle only moves forward if an attacking player is located nearby, while defending players can push it back in the other direction.
There will also be a mid-season Arcade playlist, “supporting a variety of maps and modes featuring powerups and special weapon pickups”, and the Vortex playlist is returning too.
“A new anomaly strikes the Exclusion Zone as the third Dark Aether Rift appears” in the latest Zombies story mission, Activision said. “Dr. Jansen has been lured through its portal, and the Operators of Operation Deadbolt must now conduct a rescue mission with Ravenov’s help to get her back before it’s too late.
“Prepare to face off against a horde of foes in this mid-season Story Mission, including a new Disciple variant that will put your squad’s slaying skills to the test.”
Warzone Season 3’s headline addition was the return of fan favourite map Rebirth Island alongside Resurgence mode, which let players respawn as long as one of their teammates is still alive.
The mid-season update will introduce the rare Specialist Perk Package, which grants players all available Perks when activated, and new Killstreak Foresight, which shows users the location of all future gas circles in the match.
The Weapon Trade Station is also returning, allowing players to swap their weapon for one of a lower rarity plus some extra loot, while the new Utility Box Field Upgrade (Rebirth Island) combines ammo and armour boxes.
Season 3 Reloaded will also feature Warzone’s new Heavy Armor Public Event. “A rare occurrence at Infil, this raises the number of armor plates players can carry, buffing the total number of health points from 150 to 200 for the whole match.”
