Hollow Knight: Silksong Listing Goes Live On April Fools’ Day, Reinforcing Its Existence Is A Prank
It’s April Fools’ Day, so of course a new store listing has appeared for the long-awaited but still ephemeral Hollow Knight: Silksong. The timing of the listing further solidifies the feeling that the game is never coming out and is actually just a cruel hoax perpetrated against all those who loved Hollow Knight, which is basically everyone.
The Silksong listing popped up today on Xbox.com, and although it looks normal enough, this is April 1–a day infamous for video game companies playing ridiculous pranks on their audiences. While those jokes are usually fun, it can sometimes be hard to tell the difference between joke and reality, and as Silksong was first revealed in 2019 and still has no firm release date, one can’t help but feel as though they’re being personally dunked on by Team Cherry.
Of course, this is probably just a regular store listing, with publishing timing that is completely arbitrary, although it can be entertaining to speculate that it might be something. While Xbox.com got a new store listing for the game, the Hollow Knight: Silksong listing on the Nintendo eShop has been around for a while, and they’re identical. So this probably doesn’t mean that any Silksong release news is imminent. But hey, a new store listing at least means it’s not canceled!
Then again, the last time we got a fresh look at Silksong, back in 2022, it was during an Xbox showcase. Could that mean that there really is some fresh new information to be gleaned from this store listing? Did Team Cherry and Xbox perhaps collude to publish the webpage on April 1, the only day of the year both companies knew for a fact that journalists would be thrown off the sent? Are they using our experience with years of terrible April Fools’ Day pranks against us, in order to send a secret message to the gaming public that Silksong is imminent? Is it all a conspiracy?
I mean, probably not, but it’s fun to break out the red string now and again.
