Helldivers 2’s concurrent Steam player count is now higher than all other PlayStation PC launches combined
Helldivers 2 is off to a record-breaking start on Steam, with the game’s concurrent player count now eclipsing that of all other PlayStation PC ports combined.
Helldivers 2 reached 333,827 concurrent PC players on Saturday according to SteamDB. The peak player count of all other PlayStation titles combined is 300,359.
While Helldivers 2 launched concurrently on both PC and PlayStation 5, most of PlayStation’s previous PC efforts have been ported long after the initial console release of the games.
Despite the success, the game has faced technical issues, several of which appear to have spawned from the sheer number of players attempting to play the game.
Over the weekend, director Sagar Beroshi took to X to write: “We’re aware of a problem that has caused some player rewards to not pay out properly at the end of missions.
“We are working on a fix for this, but in the meantime, we want to try to alleviate the impact as we head into the weekend.”
While intended as a fix for players who were given the wrong items or experience at the end of missions, several players were unable to take advantage of this make-good, as the game reached server capacity multiple times on Saturday.
“Despite our best efforts to increase server capacity to accommodate all of you who want to dive for Freedom, we are experiencing capacity issues,” read a statement on the game’s X account.
“We are once more working without delay to improve the issue and we hope to have a fix in place as soon as possible. Thank you.”
Announced during a PlayStation Showcase event last May, Helldivers 2 was initially scheduled for release in 2023 before being delayed, adn was finally released on Thursday.
The sequel to 2015 PS4, PS3 and Vita game Helldivers, it takes inspiration from military sci-fi like Starship Troopers, and has a focus on co-op play.
