Helldivers 2 receives major update, special edition DualSense controller coming soon

Sony has launched a major Helldivers 2 update and announced a limited edition DualSense controller inspired by the game.

The free update, Omens of Tyranny, features the return of the Illuminate faction and brings the fighting to new urban environments inside Super Earth’s colonies.

“The Illuminate are spreading through mind control, abducting citizens of weaker dedication to democratic ideals and brainwashing them for a dark purpose which is still yet unknown to us,” Katherine Baskin, social media and community manager at Arrowhead Game Studios, said in a PlayStation Blog post.

“Gone are the wide-open spaces that Helldivers are accustomed to fighting in. Cities mean closer quarters, dark alleys, and forked paths where one wrong turn means meeting a horde of Voteless to liberate. You’ll need your best and brightest squad to navigate them carefully.”

The update also introduces a Fast Recon Vehicle capable of transporting an entire squad and mowing down the Illuminate.

Following an earlier leak, a limited edition Helldivers 2 DualSense controller has also been revealed. Priced at $84.99 / €84.99 / £74.99, pre-orders for the controller will open on December 20 ahead of its launch on February 6, 2025.

According to the same source who leaked the Helldivers controller, Sony is also gearing up to release black versions of the DualSense Edge controller, Pulse Elite wireless headphones and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds.
