Game Informer magazine to close after 33 years
Game Informer magazine is closing after 33 years.
The long-running US publication will close its doors following over three decades. A letter posted to X reads: “After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer.
“From the early days of pixelated adventures to today’s immersive virtual realms, we’ve been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers.
”While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we’ve cultivated together will continue to live on. Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end.”
Veterans of Game Informer include Andy McNamara, the publication’s former editor who now works at EA, Dan Ryckert, now of Giant Bomb, and Ben Hanson, now of MinnMax.
Game Informer was known for its unprecedented access, revealing dozens of games during its history. Game Informer’s parent company, GameStop, laid off several staff from its magazine operation in 2022. It is currently unclear if the online brand will continue.
For the majority of its run, Game Informer was only available via a GameStop-back subscription. In 2024 it offered readers the chance to subscribe to the magazine outside of a GameStop membership.
