Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Warfarer And Newt Liqueur Guide

You can choose from several vocations or classes in Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, you’re limited to just one that’s active for the most part. Much later, though, you’ll gain access to something that allows you to mix-and-match based on your needs. Here’s our guide on how to unlock the Warfarer in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

How to find Newt Liqueur to unlock the Warfarer in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The Arisen-only Warfarer vocation is unlocked upon completing a quest called The Sotted Sage. The goal is to head to the Volcanic Island Camp Hot Springs. That’s where you can give an NPC named Lamond the alcohol that he’s craving for: Newt Liqueur. Do note that it’s going to take you a while to reach this particular point in the game, as you can see below:

The Sotted Sage: Where to find Lamond

This journey to unlock the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warfarer class takes you across the southwest passage from Bakbattahl and through the Drabnir’s Grotto dungeon, just so you can finally arrive at Agamen Volcanic Island. Take note that you’ll encounter a couple of NPCs close to the region’s border: Cliodhna and Gautstafr. Helping them not only unlocks the Magick-Archer class, but their own quest leads you to Lamond’s location.

In any case, assuming you’ve arrived at the Hot Springs, you’ll see Lamond just relaxing. You can talk to him, but he’ll only give you Rotten Eggs. If you want access to the Warfarer vocation, then you’ll have to find three bottles of Newt Liqueur that you can hand to him.

Where to find Newt Liqueur

There are a couple of places in the wild where you can find Newt Liqueur in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

  • There’s a man named Earland who mentions that he’s selling a bottle for 2,000 gold.
  • There’s also another bottle inside Cliodhna’s and Gautstafr’s home.

There are other ways to get Newt Liqueur, such as from Earland (left) or Cliodhna’s and Gautstafr’s house (right).

However, the best way to acquire Newt Liqueur is by purchasing it directly from Higg’s Tavern Stand, which is in the Residential Ward of Bakbattahl. Here’s what you need to do:

  • If your character is a human, make sure you have the Beastren Mask, which can be purchased from the Scrap Shop or a traveling merchant in Checkpoint Rest Town.
  • Go to Higg’s Tavern Stand and make sure you equip the Beastren Mask. Then, carry the sacks and place them inside the wooden pen.
  • An NPC will think that you’re a Beastren, and they’ll allow you to buy Newt Liqueur from a hidden shop. Each bottle costs 5,000 gold.
  • Note that attempting to carry the sacks as a human character without the Beastren Mask will cause the NPC to call the guards on you. A fight will ensue, and you’ll likely get thrown in jail.

In any case, assuming you have three Newt Liqueur bottles, give them to Lamond. This completes The Sotted Sage quest, and Lamond also grants you the Warfarer class. You should also talk to him again, since he provides a scroll that teaches you the Rearmament unique skill.

A better method, though, would be to trick a tavern stand's proprietor so you can buy several bottles.A better method, though, would be to trick a tavern stand's proprietor so you can buy several bottles.

Warfarer class mechanics and playstyle

The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Warfarer is a jack-of-all-trades type of vocation. That’s because of the following quirks:

  • If it’s your active vocation, you’ll be able to equip any weapon skill that you’ve unlocked from another class. The only exceptions are ultimate techniques taught to you by Maisters.
  • You can wear any type of armor without a class restriction.
  • You can equip any type of weapon. Only the heaviest weapon in your inventory will be counted toward the carry weight calculation.
  • You may also order each weapon in a sequence when activating Rearmament.
  • You’re limited to three weapon skills in your action bar/keybind. The last slot should be for Rearmament since it’s the bread-and-butter function of the class.

How does Rearmament work

Rearmament is more like a function, as opposed to an ultimate skill. When you press the corresponding button, it will cycle through the weapons that are assigned in your character’s inventory. Here’s an example:

  • You equipped the following skills: Exploding Shot (Archer), High Palladium (Mage), and Skull Splitter (Thief).
  • That means your inventory should have a bow (Archer), staff (Mage), and dual daggers (Thief).
  • You can then reorder them based on how Rearmament will cycle through them–i.e. Thief/daggers first, followed by Archer/bow, and then Mage/staff.
  • When cycling through weapons, only the active weapon of a class will allow you to use that particular skill. That means you can’t cast High Palladium if you’re currently equipping a bow. You have to switch to the staff first.
