Dead Island 2 gets a free co-op Horde mode and New Game+ next month

Dead Island 2 is getting a major free update next month including new modes and a new area.

The game’s sixth patch will be released on October 22 and will bring with it a number of new additions.

These include Neighborhood Watch, a new co-operative horde mode which sees players teaming up to prepare for an oncoming zombie attack.

“Taking place over the span of five fictional days, Neighborhood Watch sees a group of college kids – the Bobcats – defend their frat house from an approaching zombie horde,” the mode’s description reads.

“Initially, you and your friends complete a variety of missions, setting traps, and stockpiling weapons as you prepare your defenses. Then, on the fifth and final day, the zombie onslaught begins. If your defenses, skills, and teamwork are up to the task, you might just live to tell the tale.”

The update will also include a New Game+ mode, which developer Dambuster Studios says has been frequently requested.

“You’ll be able to dive back into the epic main story with their favorite characters and weapons, cranking up the action with an additional skill slot and increased level cap,” the studio says.

“But it doesn’t end here – the game mode adds fresh skins and brutal weapons, plus an increased difficulty and brand new foes.”

A new area of ‘Hell-A’ based on the Venice canals will also be added to the game.

The release of the patch will coincide with the release of Dead Island 2: Ultimate Edition, which contains the base game, both story expansions, five weapon packs and each Slayer’s Premium Skin Pack.

VGC’s Dead Island 2 review said the game offered “a slightly bland campaign eclipsed by brilliantly entertaining, gory combat”.
