Batman ’89 Official Sequel Novel Released This Week – Get A Nice Discount At Amazon


Batman: Resurrection, an official sequel to Tim Burton’s Batman ’89, is on sale for $22.19 at Amazon just a few days. after its October 15 release. Written by John Jackson Miller and published by Random House, Resurrection is a 336-page novel that bridges the gap between Burton’s 1989 live-action movie and its 1992 sequel, Batman Returns. Miller is no stranger to tackling stories set in the worlds of beloved franchises, as he’s previously written books about Star Wars, Star Trek, Halo, and Planet of the Apes. Amazon’s 26% discount is on the hardcover edition of Resurrection, but Random House also published a Kindle ebook version ($15) and an audiobook, which can be purchased outright for $15.75 (was $22.50) or with Audible Credit.

Set shortly after the Joker lost a fight with gravity, a stone gargoyle, and the hard pavements of Gotham, Batman: Resurrection examines the lasting impact of the clown prince of crime. The remaining members of the Joker’s gang have set up a cult of personality centered around their dead leader, and with wannabe Jokers joining the ranks, they’ve begun a campaign of arson that threatens to engulf Gotham in flames. Greedy opportunists like Max Shreck have started to exploit the situation and survivors of the Joker’s chemical weapon Smylex are overwhelming the city’s hospitals.

If you’re not a big fan of words being unaccompanied by pictures, you can also check out the official Batman ’89 comic book series. Like the book, this also took place shortly after the film and this graphic novel collects the first 12 chapters of the comic book series. It has stunning art, as well as a story that introduces characters like Two-Face and Robin to the Batman BurtonVerse. There’s even a direct graphic novel adaptation of Batman ’89 that was released to tie in with the film, and while it might be a few decades old, it still fantastic to look at thanks to the art done by comic book legend Jerry Ordway.

You can’t go wrong with Blu-rays of that Batman film either, as Burton’s first Batman movie celebrated its 35th anniversary this year with a new 4K Blu-ray Limited-Edition Steelbook. These have a terrific selection of extra content on them, including a brilliant documentary examining the influence of Batman and how this film helped kickstart a new era of superhero movies at the time. You can get both of Burton’s Batman films along with Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever and Batman & Robin in a 4K box set.

For fans of the Caped Crusader’s animated films, check out Batman 80th Anniversary 18-Film Collection, a Blu-ray box set featuring many of the best animated Batman films. Batman 85th Anniversary 10-Film Collection released in September and contains several of the same movies, but this set comes with 4K Blu-rays instead. Unfortunately, it’s substantially more expensive, even with a $53 discount dropping the price to $152.
