Banjo-Tooie is coming to Nintendo Switch this month

Rare’s Nintendo 64 classic Banjo-Tooie is coming to Nintendo Switch this month.

The 2000 sequel to 1997’s Banjo-Kazooie will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription on October 25, Nintendo announced on Friday.

The original Banjo-Kazooie game released for Switch Online back in 2022.

At the time, Banjo-Kazooie’s original developer Rare said in a statement: “It’s a pleasure to be ushering the bear and bird onto Nintendo’s latest console, offering another modern way (alongside Xbox Game Pass and Rare Replay) to savour its many collectibles and googly eyes.”

Other N64 games developed by now-Microsoft-owned Rare which have been added to Switch Online include GoldenEye, Jet Force Gemini, and Blast Corps.

Rare’s platformer hasn’t seen an instalment since Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, which was released for Xbox 360 over 15 years ago.

However, the classic franchise has been more prominent in recent years. Notably, Banjo and Kazooie were added as playable characters to Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

In 2020, Spencer said that any revivals of classic Rare franchises were up to Rare itself.  However, speaking to VGC last summer as part of an extended interview to mark Banjo-Kazooie’s 25th anniversary, a group of original Rare team members said they weren’t expecting a new game anytime soon.
