Alan Wake 2 update targets PS5 Pro issues, lets players turn off PSSR upscaling

Remedy has released an Alan Wake 2 update which lets players disable one of PS5 Pro’s key features, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

PSSR is an AI-driven upscaling technology designed to “provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail”, according to Sony.

However, not all developers have been able to harness it as planned since the console’s launch last month, and recently some have started letting players switch it off entirely.

Last week, Ubisoft gave Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora players the choice to disable PSSR, which sees the game reverting to the “same upscaling technology” offered by the base PS5.

And a new Alan Wake 2 update released on Monday does likewise. While the patch includes several fixes across all platforms, Remedy said it’s largely focused on improving the game’s performance on PS5 Pro.
