A new mini console based on the Atari 400 has been announced

A new miniature console based on the Atari 400 has been announced by the makers of the C64 Mini and Amiga 500 Mini.

Retro Games Ltd will launch the 400 Mini on March 28, 2024, priced at
$119.99.

It’s billed as “a half-sized version of the distinctively styled Atari 400, emulating the whole 8-bit Atari range, including the 400/800, XL and XE series, and the 5200 home console.”

The retro console will include 25 classic games built-in, including Berzerk, Boulder Dash, Capture the Flag, Lee, Millipede, Miner 2049er, Missile Command, M.U.L.E., Star Raiders II and Yoomp.

Players will be able to insert a USB stick with their own Atari games and play those too.

“Also included is THECXSTICK – a superb recreation of the classic Atari CX-40 joystick, with an additional seven seamlessly integrated function buttons,” according to Retro Games.

The console has five USB ports in total for connecting the likes of joysticks, controllers and keyboards.

There’s also a rewind mode that lets players rewind the action by up to 30 seconds.

“The A500 Mini is a convenient way to play a large portion of the Amiga’s games library,” according to VGC’s review of the mini console, which launched in April 2022.

“The controller is a tad uncomfortable and sideloading extra games can be a temperamental affair, but when everything works as it should it’s great to play these classic titles again.”
