Splitgate 2 announced, coming to PC and consoles next year

Splitgate 2 has been announced by developer 1047 Games.

The original Splitgate was a free-to-play first-person shooter released in 2019 and featured a portal-hopping mechanic.

The game, which was intially a school project created in a dorm room, was eventually downloaded more than 22 million times across PC and consoles.

The sequel, planned for release in 2025, has been built with a “vastly experienced team” and promises to bring “a familiar but entirely new experience to fans”.

The team includes developers who previously worked for such studios as 343 Industries, Bungie, Activision, Riot and EA.

“The original Splitgate’s development was ambitious but scrappy,” 1047 Games CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx said.

“This time around, Splitgate 2 has been designed from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 to deliver the AAA FPS experience our fans deserve, with the series’ signature action completely overhauled by an all-star team composed of the most talented individuals in the industry.
