Gears of War actor seemingly teasing a June reveal for Gears 6

The actor who plays JD Fenix in the Gears of War franchise appears to be teasing plans for a new series entry to be revealed in June.

Microsoft has said it’s planning to hold its traditional Xbox summer showcase in June, when it’s expected to offer new looks at upcoming releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, Ara: History Untold and Towerborne

It was recently claimed that the event is planned for June 9 and that Microsoft is preparing to announce new Gears of War and Call of Duty games at the show.

In an X post on Thursday, JD Fenix actor Liam McIntyre also appeared to imply that we’ll hear about the follow-up to Gears 5 at the Xbox showcase.

At the end of the last game, players are asked to choose whether to save JD or another character, Del Walker, leaving the other one to be killed.

Asked whether JD’s death in the game is canon or not, McIntyre replied: “I have no idea. I think @GearsofWar tells us all in June. :)”

According to Microsoft, Gears of War had sold over 22 million units and grossed over $1 billion dollars when the company acquired the franchise from Epic Games in 2014.

Since buying the IP, Xbox has released two mainline series entries in the form of 2016’s Gears of War 4 and 2019’s Gears 5, both of which were developed by The Coalition, as well as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and the turn-based tactics spin-off Gears Tactics.

The Coalition said in May 2021 that it was preparing to transition to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5, but that it wasn’t planning to announce any new games in the near future.

It was claimed last February that The Coalition had shifted its full attention to the next entry in the Gears of War series after two other games in development at the studio were cancelled.
