FF 14 director jokes he moved expansion launch ‘to give players one week’ to finish Elden Ring’s DLC

Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida has joked that he will give players one week to finish Elden Ring‘s upcoming DLC before Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail is released.

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail will be released on June 28 for players with early access. The regular release of the expansion will release the following week on July 2.

During a panel for the game at PAX, Yoshida, known to fans as Yoshi-P, joked that he had to move the release date to avoid the upcoming Elden Ring DLC.

“We figured everybody would be interested in playing the Elden Ring DLC,” Yoshida said through a translator. “I’ll give you one week.”

Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21, 2024, for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam.

Players will require the base game to play Shadow of the Erdtree, which is now available to pre-order in several editions, with prices starting at $39.99 / £34.99.

Customers who pre-order the expansion will receive the Ring of Miquella in-game bonus gesture.

“Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot,” reads a description on the game’s official website.

“In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.”

“Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree takes players beyond the Lands Between to explore the Land of Shadow, a completely new world from Elden Ring.

“Players can seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam.”
