Comedian who played Foreman Spike in the Mario movie says he hasn’t been asked back for the sequel

The comedian who played Foreman Spike in the Super Mario movie, and leaked his role in the film long before release, has said that he doesn’t know if his character will return for the sequel.

Sebastian Maniscalco played Foreman Spike, Mario and Luigi’s former boss, in the animated film. Prior to the film’s initial trailer, Maniscalco appeared on the Bertcast podcast where he leaked that he would play the character in the film.

Now Maniscalco has said that he hasn’t been asked back for the sequel, and that no merchandise has been made for his character.

“So, we went to Universal Studios, and they had a Super Mario store with all the merchandise,” Maniscalco said in an interview with Screen Rant.

“I was with my kids, I go, ‘guys, come on. I’m going to show you daddy’s character in a stuffed animal’. No Spike, no nothing. It stopped at me.

“It was every other character, and then me, I have no animal, no stuffy, no nothing. So, the fact that I didn’t have a stuffed animal is not giving me a lot of confidence that I’m coming back for the sequel. I haven’t heard anything, so your guess is as good as mine.”

The first Mario movie was released in April 2023 and grossed $1.36 billion at the box office, which was second only to Barbie ($1.44b) last year. The sequel is scheduled for release in April 2026.
