New Cyberpunk Netflix animation confirmed as 2077 tops 30 million sales

CD Projekt has confirmed that it’s partnered with Netflix for a new Cyberpunk animation project.

Chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz announced the news, along with new sales milestones for its Cyberpunk game franchise, as part of the company’s quarterly earnings results on Tuesday,

“I also have some good news straight from Night City,” he said. “Sales of Cyberpunk 2077 have topped 30 million copies, while the Phantom Liberty expansion has sold eight million units.

“These are impressive figure – they reveal the true size of the fan community and the scale of interest in the Cyberpunk universe.

“Both are very important to us, since we recently announced that next year the game, along with its expansion, would be coming to Mac devices powered by Apple Silicon chips.

“I’m also very happy to announce that we’re working on another animation project set in the Cyberpunk universe, which will be released on Netflix.”

Netflix previously teased plans for a new Cyberpunk collaboration with CD Projekt via a short trailer released in September, which is viewable below.

Nielubowicz didn’t confirm if the project is another collaboration with animation company Studio Trigger. The Tokyo-based company animated Cyberpunk Edgerunners, a Netflix streaming hit which contributed to a boost in Cyberpunk 2077 sales following its release in 2022.

Development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which is codenamed Project Orion, is being headed by CD Projekt Red’s new North American arm, which has studios in Boston and Vancouver.

The studio has said the game’s development outside of Europe means Cyberpunk 2 will be more authentically American.

CD Projekt also confirmed today that The Witcher 4 has entered full-scale production.
