PS5 Slim console covers reportedly not compatible with PS5 Pro

PS5 Slim console covers reportedly aren’t compatible with PS5 Pro.

That’s according to a Reddit user who’s had early access to the PS5 Pro ahead of its launch next week.

In a post on Wednesday, they claimed that while the bottom PS5 Slim plates can be attached to the Pro model, the top plates can’t. Despite being the same size, the teeth that connect the cover to the console are said to be located in slightly different positions.

PlayStation 5 Pro does not work with the slim plates.

Sony hasn’t outright said this is the case, but on its PlayStation Direct store, the PS5 Slim covers are only listed as being compatible with that model.

A lack of compatibility has also seemingly been confirmed by an infographic on Amazon Japan’s PS5 Pro store page, which is viewable below.

Sony will launch PS5 Pro on November 7. Priced at $700 / £700 / €800, it will include a 2TB SSD and a DualSense wireless controller, but a disc drive will need to be purchased separately.

According to Sony, PS5 Pro has a GPU with 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. What this means is that, overall, PS5 Pro has 45% faster rendering for gameplay, “making the experience much smoother”.

Meanwhile, advanced ray tracing allows in-game light rays to be cast at “double, and at times triple”, the speeds of the current PS5 console.

PS5 Pro also introduces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide sharper image clarity, according to Sony.
